we all knew choi boy was blessed with lovely locks long before he came home. and when he came home, it was weird-looking. then it grew to a decent look where we could tuck his hair behind his ears and push his bangs to one side so it looked kinda like a beib*er but way cuter. and then it kept growing.
so it was a little mullet-ish and shaggy. so it would get a little nappy in the back sometimes. so it would like he had a rat tail when it was wet. it was still kinda cute, right?
okay, so we were definitely do for a trim.
a trim.
that's what we wanted. we wanted to keep choi boy's hair still relatively long to complete his cool rock star/surfer look. we thought he'd get a little off the rat tail back and a little off his side-swept bangs to keep them out of his eyes and just a teeny bit off the sideburns.
well.
i suppose bad haircuts are kinda like parenting rites of passages as well as rites of passage for the child himself. because that's what we got. times 10. at least.
i went with my mom to the korean salon i normally go to. i wanted a korean stylist to cut cb's hair since sometimes the texture and fall of korean hair can be a bit tricky to cut. i figured a stylist who normally worked with korean hair would know what she was doing.
and she did. she just didn't listen. though, choi boy didn't really make things easy for her, so i think it was a combination of not hearing my wishes and not being able to do much with a screaming child.
as soon as choi boy saw the smock he'd be wearing, he started to cry. my mom (who was in the let-the-chemicals-sit-and-do-their-magic stage of getting a perm) held him in the chair while i held his hand (and took pictures -- i know, i'm so mean! but i had to document it, right? and i did stop when the screaming got bad, promise). for a split second, he was happy to munch on his fruit strip. until the scissors came out. and then all h-e-double-hockey-sticks broke out...
see for yourself:
the end result? so many kinds of awful it landed cb in a collage with these guys:
the dude on the bottom left is priceless, eh? heh heh.
*sigh*
the good thing is, unlike samson who lost all his power with his hair, cb still retained a good amount of his cuteness. even if his bangs are ridiculous looking.
i hope his hair grows fast. super fast.

oh that collage made me LAUGH!!!!! I've seen much worse haircuts---on my own kids, no less. He is still adorable and I know it will grow fast!
ReplyDeleteawwww CB!1 I would totally recommend Snip-Its if you have one around the area... they have all kinds of tricks to keep the kids happy and still (videos, games, toys, etc) and the stylists are so super fast. I'm surprised they only used scissors-- with RJ it was all clippers. And they use super quiet ones too. RJ's had mixed reviews-- first haircut not even a whimper, second he loved, third he cried. And yeah, he's had 3 haircuts (7 months, 10 months, 12 months) and he's definitely due for another... and when we get his cut we get it cut REALLY short... so don't worry, it grows SUPER fast!! hehe.
ReplyDeletei don't think it actually looks that bad at all!! sure, his bangs are short, but they will grow so fast that within a couple weeks he'll be back to his completely stylish self again! briar's were cut about an inch too short a couple weeks ago and now they are already back to a "normal" length!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! mother to mother, i can ONLY imagine the pain, laughter and anxiety you must've felt all at the same time! awwwww! but LOVED the blog post!

ReplyDeleteoh, i'm so disappointed in your korean salon! next time try taking a photo of a hair style you like - they can't misinterpret that! i love the collage - hysterical! it made my night. seriously.
ReplyDeletecb is still super cute and has those lovely cheeks. so, come on hair, GROW!
i am dying of laughter at both your photo collage and the end and of course the commentary that goes along with it all! of course your baby boy still looks absolutely adorable! ( jim carey look-alike and all. :) and the photos of during the cut are oh so familiar. only recently did noah finally turn a corner with his haircuts. also, he goes to a lovely woman named daisy who is korean and usually she gives him amazing haircuts. well right before christmas she cut it super duper short which was fine...until the next morning when i realized that she cut his cowlick so short that it is still sticking up like a rooster all the time! i'm still waiting for his hair to grow!
ReplyDeleteawwww...i love that collage and he still looks super cute...it is a rite of passage! =)
ReplyDeleteoh, hilarious, but I know how you feel. I decided to cut my boys hair one day and seriously ended up having to buzz the whole thing off because while I was trimming sideburns, he moved his head and..oops. shaved down the side:) I dont think your boy could ever be anything but adorbs!!!
ReplyDeleteAHH!! Too funny! I fear haircuts for my child... my mom used to cut my hair like that... only my bangs were even shorter - and very crooked! I'm sure his hair will grow fast, but at least he's still super cute, right?! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's why Ella didn't get a haircut until 3 (she's a girl so I could get away with it).
ReplyDeleteSeriously - your collage made me laugh - but Carson still looks ADORABLE. The haircut has a bit of a resemblance to the photos you posted, but honestly much cuter. Plus hair grows fast!!!
Oh, I still think he's as cute as ever! Bad haircut and all!
ReplyDeleteThat said, I totally feel your pain... like Colleen, we've only recently gotten to the point where Spencer doesn't flip out when we go for a haircut.
And... I can only blame myself for his worst haircut to date. A buzz cut?! What was I thinking?!?! I'm *still* waiting for that to grow out!!!
he still looks adorable to me -- at least he still has a solid head of hair on him. my most traumatic haircut occurred when i took k somewhere cheaper, and they pretty much shaved his head before i could react. he looked like a convict for at least 6-mths. a pint-sized convict.
ReplyDeleteAww, CB could never be anything but completely adorable!! Thanks for the laugh over the photo collage, though, it completely cracked me and the hubs up this morning!!
ReplyDeletehahaha...he's still cute!
ReplyDeleteAWWWW! Hahaha. Better to get it out of the way now, when he is young, and there aren't school pictures ;-)
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
Future Mama

aaaaaw poor cb! it's not too bad...
ReplyDeleteit'll grow back ;) he's still a cutie!
LOL! Your poor husband! Gotta love the 80s. At least hair grows fast. And it could have been much worse. He could have gotten ahold of the scissors and gave it a go himself...
ReplyDeleteOh, boy! Poor Choi Boy. Although I really don't think the cut looks that bad, it definitely sounds like it was a rough experience for all of you! Hope it grows fast!!
ReplyDeleteHe'd look cute no matter! ADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteLMBO! Aww, poor CB! He still looks totally adorable, though. ..promise!
ReplyDeleteoh no!!!!!!!!! too funny though. love the selection of photos. glad he and dad can have something to giggle about or be embarassed about one day...
ReplyDeleteUh-oh! Oh dear. CB: You are still so super cute, but your mama's post made me laugh. Sorry. Maybe you sensed what was about to go down. (Even my DH LOVED the collage photo of his dopplergangers...and we both love that your DH is included in that.)
ReplyDeleteHello All! This is CB's dad... just wanted to say that I TOTALLY ROCKED that look! I'm thinking about bringing it back!
ReplyDeleteI thought first haircuts are *supposed* to be traumatic! He is still a cutie pie though.
ReplyDeleteI still think he looks adorable even if the bangs are a wee bit short. Congrats on surviving another parenting rite of passage!
ReplyDeleteYup, it's a rite of passage for sure. Sorry about the trauma. Poor CB. The photo collages totally cracked me up! Is that your hubby back in the day ...?? Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteOh, no. I will say it's not THAT bad and it will grow back soon.
ReplyDeleteI've finally returned to blogland and can't wait to catch up on your adventures. I totally understand traumatic haircuts...still haven't managed to get Pudding a decent one since he's been home. I think CB is absolutely the cutest little boy ever - bad haircut or no bad haircut! Now off to read through your archives;)
ReplyDeletethis made me laugh out loud with the pictures! And no bad hair cut is going to affect that cuteness!!!
ReplyDeleteoh my..i'm so far behind! that is so funny that chois boy got the same hair cut that peter had! i remember your post about his hair and what you'd do with it once he was home!! hehe..it's really not that bad and i'm sure it's looking better even as i write this. still the pictures leading up to it made me belly laugh!
ReplyDeleteAww! He's adorable!
ReplyDeleteOh Grace, I'm seriously laughing out loud right now. Like really loud. I hope I don't wake Maddyx up! Ok, so this is really funny. And sad. And totally my biggest fear with getting Maddyx's hair cut! I think Maddyx and CB have very similar hair styles (well they used to) and we're still rockin' the long rocker/surfer do, as I'm too scared to have it cut. After seeing your post. I might hold out just a bit longer. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, he's still totally cute! That cannot be denied. But your commentary was over the top funny on this one.
Yet again, you are hilarious. That photo montage is hilarious. Oh that poor little boy in the bottom left corner. I almost peed myself laughing. I`m sure that even within a week or two, CB`s hair will be much much better.
ReplyDeleteI think he looks adorable!
ReplyDeleteOh little CB... you are still adorable! Has it grown on you yet?
ReplyDeleteThe haircut is hilarious! Still, cb looks adorable. That's not hard for him!! Adam had a funny haircut when he came home from Korea (yes, they cut his hair there!). I am so glad that he now gets a buzz-- so much easier to maintain. (:
ReplyDeleteNice! My daughter, who has blonde hair, got the same haircut when we lived in Seoul ... I've cut her hair myself ever since!
