let me be honest for a moment. thomas? as in the blue tank engine, thomas? kinda freaks me out. the shifty eyes and (in the earlier seasons) the mouths that don't move while the characters talk are just a little too bizarre. that, and as the hubs says, sir topham hatt is kind of a mean, bossy jerk to the trains. just sayin'.
but, choi boy seems to think thomas is pretty cool and his love for trains still holds strong, so when our good friends asked us if we wanted to join them for a day out with thomas, we said yes, knowing that cb would have a blast with his buddies.
and freaky or not, the day did not disappoint. we got there about an hour and a half ahead of our scheduled ride and kept ourselves occupied with the many different activities that were available for all the little conductors and engineers! (and of course, i left my camera at home AGAIN, so all these photos are from my phone.)
there were strange animals (that were oddly out of place) to see:
why, yes, that really is a tortoise and a hare!
the boys tried very hard to appreciate the little critters...
i'm sorry, shawna, i had to include this one of G!
of course, cb had to be tatted up for the special train ride!
cb showed off his street cred.
there was spin art to be made:
and it wouldn't be a choi family outing without junk food!
cb was very nice about sharing the cotton candy goodness with his friends, G and E...
...but his friends aren't has insane about sugar as cb.
G couldn't figure why the heck we were munching on this blue fuzzy stuff!
finally, it was time to board!
the boys were very excited and loved being on a real train!
the parents, on the other hand, chuckled at the scenery that we chugged through. you see, the event took place at a train museum, which in and of itself was quite cool. it was an old station and roundhouse and was probably super hoppin' and awesome a hundred years ago. and now? well...we joked that we seemed to be chuffing through a train graveyard.
where trains come to retire and be transformed into impressive graffiti canvases!
in addition to the old train cars for scenery, we also had several police escorts on dirt bikes. police escorts that happened to be poppin' wheelies for all the kiddos (and excited dads) on the train. ;)
we went all the way down to the junkyard, stopped, and then headed back to the station. but not before coming to a full stop in front of this train car that happened to be scribbled with the words "felon family". which sent us into a fit of giggles as we watched our three boys causing some mischief as they jumped up and down and the train seats. ;)
regardless of mischief, our three little guys all received junior engineer certificates, of which they were very proud.
okay, they really had no idea what the pieces of paper were for.
once we exited the train, we tried to get a picture of the boys, and you can guess how that went:
yep, that was the best one we got. and we took LOTS. ;)
before we left, the boys got to ride a mini-train that was almost as big a hit as the big train!
and they also had a ride on this funny little ride that was kind of like a sideways ferris wheel:
the boys mostly thought it was great fun, but if you look closely, you can see a little fear in cb's eyes as he tries to play it cool...
heehee.
we took one final walk through the roundhouse to see all the old trains,
then went to grab some dinner at the harbor...
where the mommas left the little boys and big boys to fend for themselves
as we sat across from them at a separate table, sipping our drinks and actually ingesting our food without being interrupted 5000 times.
;) what a happy ending to our day out with thomas!

small style: the sickies can't get us down!
the sickies hit us fairly hard last week. they came in spurts and kept sneaking back up on us just when we thought they were gone. it was part cold/virus part nasty allergies and alllllll gross. there were snots coming out of choi boy's EYES. okay, maybe not snot, per se, but definitely yellow-y, mucus-y gunk.
have i totally disgusted you yet? sorry. i was partly facsinated by this fact and needed to share. aren't you glad i did? ;)

thankfully, cb felt well enough for us venture out for a bit on saturday afternoon so we could head to the chick-fil-a fire and rescue event. it was just what we needed -- some sunshine, vitamin D, fire trucks, and of course, food!
i've decided that an oxford shirt, t-shirt, shorts, and kicks is cb's go-to spring/summer outfit.
and cb?
and cb?
he couldn't care less. ;)
my mom, on the other hand, was happy to cb in his outfit and immediately whisked him away to show him off to all her friends.
and hug a cow.
but that's not all.
take that, sickies!
and whohoo for the very long (and much needed) nap that followed! :)
details:
sunnies: target dollar spot
t-shirt: crewcuts, gift from a friend
oxford: did too (nordstroms), gift from a family friend
shoes: gap
and i realized i never picked a winner for the giveaway...oops. i'm blaming it on the sickies. so, without further ado, the winner is tina! i'll get your sandwich cards to you pronto! :)

you got me feelin' emotions.
remember this mariah carey gem?
raise your hand if you are immediately taken back to awkward middle school days of gold wire-rim glasses, braces, and way-too-high hairsprayed bangs.
oh.
yeah, me neither.
anyway. the great mc aside, choi boy has been into identifying emotions lately and has developed some pretty awesome faces to go along with those feelings.
it's equal parts adorable and hilarious, if i do say so myself. but i'll let you say so yourself:
;)
i'm pretty sure "confused" is my favorite. and i'm almost certain "sad" will nominated for an oscar next year, even though we are months away from oscar season. it's just so believeable!
and now you know what bedtime looks like around our house. and you also have a taste of what i sound like as a stage mom. poor CB.

small style: batter up!
we love that springtime means lots of time outside. and choi boy loves being out in wide open spaces, showing off all the skills that he honed during the cold indoor months. to him, playing tee ball with an actual ball (and not a pretend one or a super squishy one) and hitting it as far as he possibly can = heaven. :)
an added bonus for us? it's really cute to watch.
{i'm slightly alarmed/mostly highly amused by how much cb looks like a preppy frat boy here. he's all, "c'mon, bro. let's ditch the books and go play ball in the quad!"}
here's our little slugger in action:
there's the set up:
the wind up:
the swing!
the hit!
and the utter concentration and readiness to do it all over again!
:)
i made him pose like he was taking his team photos:
and then i shed a little tear and made him stop because he suddenly looked to be about 6 years-old.
and then he was done.
and wanted to go back to being 2 and a half and playing with his pororo cars.
cars that happened to be sent all the way from korea from his sweet, sweet foster mom.
we are so blessed to continue to have this amazing connection. 감사합니다! :)
so thankful for sunshine and warmer weather!
and the small style details:
sunglasses: target dollar spot (holla!)
checkered shirt: gap (gift from my aunt)
yellow tee: gap (gift from my aunt)
shorts: company 81 (gift from my cousin, april)
kicks: vans (gift from my cousin, elissa)
