the first casualties.

i knew that when choi boy came home, piper would be confused by the toys that would suddenly be strewn around our house. after all, all the toys that were in the house previous to choi boy's arrival had been hers.

over the years, the amount of toys she was allowed to have drastically decreased because she would tear everything to shreds and we were tired of wasting our money on dog toys that she would annihilate within minutes. seriously, the hubs and i would take bets on how long new toys would last. i think the average survival time was 17 minutes. stuffed animals dog toys have been strictly forbidden as the pipe got into the brutal habit of beheading and mutilating them. so sad.

so, it was only a matter of time before piper got into some of choi boy's toys (how's that for rhyming?)...

yesterday, while cleaning up, here's what i found:
Photobucket

would you like to see some close ups of the damage?

i knew you would.

first up, we have a board book, baby signs for mealtime.
Photobucket
does anyone else think it's crazy that the *one* book piper decided to tear into was a book about food?! i tell you, my dog's a genius.

next, we have a wooden puzzle piece:
Photobucket
sadly, this had to go into the trash after i took this because it was so badly splintered.

methinks perhaps piper was trying to learn signs and shapes by way of ingestion. you know, like martha and the alphabet soup?

well, that or piper just likes chomping on wood and ripping paper.

nah, it's gotta be the former.

and finally, the little people farm horse. look closely at the mane:
Photobucket
i think piper was feeling a bit jealous of/inferior to the horse.

don't worry, even after all this destruction (which is just the first of much to come, i'm sure), choi boy and piper are still best buds:
Photobucket
i see this at least 20 times a day. it's so sweet. it's part hug, part lean, part trying to mount and ride piper.

i'm thinking of buying a small saddle. maybe piper can make up for the destruction by becoming an actual toy for choi boy.

anyone know where i can find one?

  1. I'm sure CB is happy to sacrifice some toys for his new best friend! Labs are so crazy!

  2. LOL! So cute (well, not the destruction, but the hug/lean). Sorry to hear of the mishaps. It wasn't a favorite lovey or anything like that so that's at least good! :)

Hopefully Piper can teach Choi Boy his shapes after all of this learning. :) Hugs!

  3. Ha, that is great. One of my cats, Casper, actually chewed up the photo album we sent to Ben. Ben has lost many toys to the cats.

  6. Ha! This happens very frequently here, too. Our golden loves to take Joel's clothes and has chewed up toys (mostly wooden pieces). At least Choi Boy and Piper are still best buds!

  7. Oh man, this happened with our lab Leo when we first brought X home. He even ripped a sentimental one :( He's gotten better though, but every now and then I see him nibble on one of X's stuffed animals and I know he's deciding which appendage to rip off first.

The Martha Speaks reference cracked me up! And I love that Choi boy hugs his pup - so sweet.

  8. Oh, the hug/lean is so very, very sweet.
And YIKES on the puzzle piece!
Thank goodness cats aren't that destructive...

  9. sadly, our 9 year old pup STILL has trouble keeping her mouth off of C's stuffed animals! some of them we just gave up on and let her have them. one is a pair of elmo slippers that she adores. when C does put them on, she chases his feet around trying to grab elmo!

sippy cups are a favorite around here too - many of them have serious bite marks on them. and lastly, sage recently chewed the straps of C's beloved pororo backpack :(. when there are bags on the floor or tupperware (even if they are empty), she gets OCD with them and HAS to open them. for some reason she thinks by chewing on the straps, it will open the bag. grrr. good thing mama has a sewing machine and the backpack is almost as good as new!

sorry that was so long! i love hearing about other doggies and clearly i love talking about mine :)

  10. We lost a few toys to Pepper when Kyle first came home but lately she has been respectful of Kyle's toys. Love that Choi boy and Piper hug multiple times a day - so sweet!

  13. we have had surprisingly no toy casualties around here; i still can't believe it!

when briar was first home she use to get on buster's back when he was laying down and he would roll over (not get up) like he thought she was trying to pet him and she'd come crashing down. it was so funny!

  16. That was priceless! We have three dogs and have a lot of the toy problems you mentioned! Stuffed puppy toys are forbidden in our home because of the clean up minutes later! I can only imagine when the kids get home what it will be like... sheer, glorious chaos! Thanks for the laugh this morning!

  17. Oh boy. Just remember when Piper has her moments how very, very good she's being as a big sister! We didn't have any casualties... but we also didn't have any hugs those first few months!

  18. That could have been my post, Dodge (our naughty chocolate lab) makies our yard into a toy graveyard. Parker will scream and come get me if Dodge takes a toy! However, Parker is still in love with the dogs!

  19. I'm so glad he's home! He's adorable!! I also get casualties from my dog (and some from my chewing toddlers)!

  20. This post made me laugh. We have two cats and they have their "babies" that they carry around the house (little stuffed animals and toys). So, when Wesley arrived and there were toys and stuffed animals, etc. the cats had a hard time staying away from his stuff. They have been surprisingly good with the addition of Wesley and have been good big brothers watching out for him and being very protective - almost dog-like. ;)

  21. I don't blame Piper...the look tasty! :)
G is a big hugger of pets too. See...I knew it would go well with those two!!
